Communications and Outreach Portfolio

The Communications and Outreach Portfolio has a vision to deliver the Centre’s science and skills across the nation and globally. The Portfolio will harness the Centre’s existing expertise demonstrated by the Centre’s outreach ambassadors and build on this to engage with and produce relevant communication materials for state and commonwealth governments, the broader science community, industry, primary and high school students and the public.

Our schools outreach program has engaged with seven schools across the country in the past year, and we participate in existing school outreach programs such as the Queensland State Government’s Wonder of Science program and non-government organisation DeadlyScience’s Deadly Learners program (see Equity, Diversity, Indigenous and Inclusion portfolio). School visits occurred in capital cities and in regional areas, including Toowoomba in Queensland and the Blue Mountains and Penrith regions, west of Sydney. These visits are in line with our key goal of delivering science to regional Australia. In 2023, we aim to strengthen our school outreach program by partnering with the CSIRO STEM Professionals in Schools program which will allow us to reach schools in even more diverse locations and make meaningful connections with teachers and classrooms. To support this partnership, we will be prioritising training and resource development, to ensure that our centre members are well equipped to visit schools and communicate the excitement of our research and inspire the next generation in their pursuit of STEM careers.
