Dr Xuyu (Johnny) Liu

Dr Liu is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer and ARC DECRA Fellow at the School of Chemistry and Heart Research Institute (USyd). He accomplished his PhD at the University of Sydney in 2017. In March 2017, he transitioned to Cornell University to conduct postdoctoral research at the Aye Lab, funded by the National Institutes of Health (United States). His journey took a new turn in September 2018 when he relocated with Prof. Yimon Aye to EPFL (Switzerland). Subsequently, he took on a new role as the interim laboratory head, playing a pivotal role in chemical proteomic platform establishment at the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering (EPFL). In September 2019, Dr Liu’s research outputs earned him the prestigious Sydney Cardiovascular Fellowship, providing him with funding of $1,000,000 to establish his independent lab at the School of Chemistry and Heart Research Institute. Over the past three years, his contributions to cardiovascular drug discovery research have been widely recognised, garnering support from several prestigious Category 1 funding schemes, including the ARC DECRA Fellowship, the National Heart Foundation Vanguard Grant, the TTRA funding scheme, and the NSW Cardiovascular Collaborative Grant.
