AI Huber has developed software packages specifically for determining the 3D structures of proteins, peptides and protein-peptide complexes from experimental data. AI Huber also runs a highly successful biochemistry group. Recent successes of importance to the Centre include a new, extraordinarily efficient selection system for the site-specific incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins and peptides. The unnatural amino acids provide attachment points for site-selective chemistry, such as the attachment of posttranslational modifications. With CI Otting, he has developed new genetically encoded NMR probes that can be site-specifically placed in proteins. With CI Payne, he has produced a protein with an amino-terminal selenocysteine residue for scar- free expressed protein ligation.
