About

Australia's national centre for peptide and protein discovery and engineering

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science (CIPPS) strives to build a critical understanding of peptides and proteins in order to unleash the potential of these biomolecules for human benefit. We will discover nature’s untapped reservoir of peptides and proteins, decode their structures and functions, and develop enhanced synthetic technologies to address biology’s next grand challenge—the design of peptides and proteins for targeted scientific, agricultural, biotechnology, animal health and pharmaceutical applications.

CIPPS has assembled leading researchers from diverse disciplines to create a sustainable national research centre that will drive new Australian industries and train the next generation of researchers. In collaboration with our partners spanning Big Pharma (Astra Zeneca, Novo Nordisk), Ag Biotech (Innovate Ag), instrumentation (AB Sciex and Vapourtec), manufacturing (Almac, CSIRO), food science (CSIRO) and education (Questacon) CIPPS will tackle global-scale problems associated with discovering, decoding and developing peptides and proteins for the benefit of society.

Major funding support of $35 million over seven years is provided by the Australian Government through the Australian Research Council Centres of Excellence scheme with an additional $54 million in cash and in-kind contributions from the Centre's national and international partners. This investment will position Australia as an international hub for peptide and protein science to drive new Australian industries.
