Prof Rob Capon

Associate Investigator

The University of Queensland

Prof Capon specialises in the chemistry of Australian biodiversity, with the aim of accessing and acquiring knowledge of a wealth of new and rare natural products. Through academic and industry collaborators, this knowledge is used to inform and inspire innovative solutions to important scientific and societal challenges. Of relevance to CIPPS, Prof Capon has an extensive library of marine and terrestrial bacteria and fungi, and an integrated platform of high throughput microbiological, chemical and biological profiling strategies, capable of accelerating the discovery of valuable new chemistry. Prof Capon and his team are especially adept and isolating, identifying and assessing the chemical and biological potential of structurally diverse natural products, including acyclic and cyclic peptides, and depsipeptides.
