Dr Larance carried out his BSc honours degree at the University of New South Wales where he graduated with 1st class honours. In 2007, he completed his PhD at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research under the supervision of Professor David James. After his PhD, in 2009 Dr Larance moved to the University of Dundee where he worked in the laboratory of Professor Angus Lamond. In 2016, he was awarded a Cancer Institute NSW Future Research Leader Fellowship and recruited to the University of Sydney as a Senior Lecturer within the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. In 2020, Dr Larance was recruited to the School of Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Dr Larance’s research focuses on the development of new proteomic methods and their application to understand the changes in metabolism and hormones induced by dietary restriction. His lab is recognized for pioneering new technologies for the detection and quantification of low abundance peptide hormones in blood plasma. These methods have enabled the discovery of new metabolic hormones in humans that may have therapeutic applications in obesity and diabetes treatment.
